PRONI in partnership with the Imperial War Museum (IWM) is hosting an event to mark the 80th anniversary of the HMS Belfast which was built by Harland & Wolff. This event will be held on 12 March 2018, 2.30 pm - 4.30 pm.

HMS Belfast which was launched on St Patrick's Day 1938 is currently a museum ship moored in London.  HMS Belfast saw action escorting Arctic convoys to the Soviet Union during 1943, participated in Operation Overlord supporting the Normandy landings. In June 1945, HMS Belfast was redeployed to the Far East to join the British Pacific Fleet and would later see action in 1950-52 during the Korean War.

HMS was retired in 1967 and opened to the public on Trafalgar Day, 21 October 1971. It is run by the Imperial War Museum.

Speakers will include Ngaire Bushell from the Imperial War Museum and Stephen Cameron, author of Belfast Shipbuilders: A Titanic Tale.
